I've spent the whole day trying to make decent favicons but all of the effort I put into them is wasted because they're so TINY.

Orignal sizes:

EDIT: This is really addictive. I remade the candy apple into 100px avatar size.

I've been completely absorbed in Japanese art/history/culture for the past few months since I'm attending Japanese-related events. As much as I've gotten sick of Japanese stuff and wanted to move on to learning about other cultures, it's still just as visually and creatively stimulating as always and there's constantly something new and interesting to look up. I'm doing this in the first place so I know enough about Japanese culture to work from it to cater to the weaboos of anime conventions. ...Although, I could just take the easy way out and draw stupid fanart. But I'm a stubborn ass an will try to appeal to them without borderline coypright infringement (no, instead I'll be using cultural appropriation, oho) . It's still probably pointless, though. Anime fans for the most part only care about what directly relates to them. Their animes. And whatever bits of Japanese culture are featured/"advertised" in the saccharine cartoons. They don't ever seem to dig deeper than the marketable garbage that occupies their miniscule attention spans. For fucks sake-- these people can't even take the time to google what real kimonos look like before they half-ass stitch up a bathrobe made of Chinese-styled brocaded satinFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF...oh, look at that wall of text.

Badly drawn and I still can't get a purple and yellow color scheme (besides pastels) too look decent but I need a guide for right now.

An other design for an upcoming mascot contest. I'm not sure if this design as it currently is will have a chance. It's kind of too detailed, I guess? It's not streamlined and simple like a mascot should be. I guess I'm worried about straying too far from the previous mascots that were designed for this con.

I was inspired by the common images of hydrangeas in rain that I see so often in Japanese illustrations and photos (turns out that hydrangeas bloom during Japan's rainy season in the summer). Then I started thinking about temples.. and then miko.. and then obakemono? I thought a karakasa would make for an interesting umbrella, since umbrellas are repeating motif for this convention's mascots. I dunno, though. I asked a friend what he thought of karakasas and he said they're too freaky looking.

...Oh, I forgot to add the karakasa's foot.

And what is she? A miko? A graduate? She looks like a cross between the two. There's a distinct lack of red and her kimono half is too detailed. I don't know.

While I was working on that winter drawing the character started to remind me of like a western yukionna. Since she wears gothic lolita clothing I thought it'd be neat to giver a wa lolita design while I was at it.

The design's sort of a work in progress but I figured I should get this out of the way. I'm trying to be REALLY careful with bright, saturated colors. I love them. But I don't want to overuse them.

sketch and yet an other list

I'm just messing around, i suppose. I doubt Sven would ever go for a design like this. It doesn't really fit the genre or what he has in mind. I didn't think the high-waist belt line would suit her or possibly look too childish but it adds to the long, swooping sort of line scheme I usually picture on her.

I need to keep track of things I've been meaning to draw/study.

- bees
- cats
- korean stuff
- flonne and etna
- indian things
- robots
- kool-aid red
- kelly green
- pink flames
- caterpillars
- trees
- mother 1
- yukionna

tegaki & con to-do list

Cross-post from Tegaki-e

I've been working on this design for a long time. I've went through a lot of concepts for it and still can't get it how I want. At least she looks a bit more ragged like a zombie SHOULD look like. Before her design lines were far too crisp and clean. Although the design I had was better. :/ ..But it didn't suit her. Okay, terrible colors on this drawing because I can't get used to tegaki and manipulate the colors to my liking. Oh well. I just don't want her to look like a Lei-Lei/Hsien-ko/Munak/Bongun palette swap. Urgh. Her costume kind of looks like Li Meiling's design from Card Captor Sakura. Oh well, I have to switch that up anyway.

Con to-do list:

-Kumoricon mascot entry
-Sakura-con mascot entry
-Naka-kon (early Feb.)
-Kawakon (April)
-Anime St. Louis (dunno lol)
-ColossalCon (June next year)
-Motaku (next fall in Kansas City what the fuck they've already got an anime con why the hell are they planning an other one it's not like Naka-kon is huge or something)
- Tokyo in Tulsa (next year possibly holy cow that con is way larger than I expected)

This blog was originally meant for something else. But I guess I'll ditch that idea and make a pointless art blog.

I guess I'll start with a work in progress of my new site layout:
